Purpose of Use

Spring pins and Fokker needles in stainless steel are primarily used for secure and flexible connection of components in mechanical systems. Spring pins (also known as spring bushings or spring dowels) act as elastic clamping connections that dampen vibrations and enable quick assembly without screws. Fokker needles, on the other hand, are specialized needles for fokking – a technique for creating precise holes or guidance in forming tools. Both products made of stainless steel are excellently suited for environments with moisture, chemicals, or high temperatures, as stainless steel (e.g., AISI 304 or 316) offers exceptional corrosion resistance. Their purpose is to shorten assembly times, minimize wear, and ensure a long-lasting, low-maintenance construction – ideal for prototyping, series production, or repairs.

How It Works

Spring Pins: These consist of a cylindrical stainless steel body with integrated spring lamellae that expand radially. When inserted into a matching bore (e.g., with 0.1–0.2 mm clearance), the lamellae press against the wall to create friction-based clamping force. The spring action absorbs movements and prevents loosening. The stainless steel surface ensures low friction and high durability. Removal is simple by pulling with a tool.

Fokker Needles: These thin, pointed needles made of stainless steel have a hardened tip for precise piercing. They are used in fokking machines or manually to create holes in soft materials or serve as guide pins. The corrosion resistance of the stainless steel ensures that the needles remain sharp and shape-stable even with repeated use. Functionally, they work through mechanical force transmission, where the needle tip displaces the material without twisting it.

Examples of Use Cases
  • Automotive Industry: Spring pins secure dashboard components in vehicles where vibrations are high – an example: Secure mounting of switches in a car dashboard that hold up for years without loosening.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Fokker needles are used in sheet metal processing, e.g., to fock holes for screw connections in machine housings – saves time compared to drilling and reduces waste.
  • Precision Mechanics and Medical Technology: Spring pins connect delicate parts in watches or medical devices where precision and hygiene are crucial; Fokker needles fock holes in sterile packaging for implants.
  • Repair and DIY: In the home workshop, spring pins hold shelves or machine components, while Fokker needles are used for quick repairs on leather or textiles.
